Tip of the Month...
My Nia Journey - Agolo in '07 to Agolo in '11
As I taught my classes this week I went back to teaching the first routine that I ever learned titled Agolo. Teaching it reminded me vividly of where Nia began for me in the tiny stone floor studio at the Burlington YMCA in Feb '07. I taught my first class there, teaching one or two students at a time, dancing Agolo. I could teach that routine in my sleep! It took me six months to learn after I took the white belt instructor training in 2006. At the time, the only reason I became an instructor was because we were moving from Boulder, CO (which has Nia on every corner) to Burlington where I could not find a regular class when searching online. At that point I thought I couldn't live without it so I did the training with the intention of teaching when we moved here.
Four years later, here we are, many more instructors and a beautiful studio that holds Nia classes every day of the week. When I teach Agolo, I am reminded of why I teach Nia. It is so simple - pure Joy. I have taught that routine so many times that I have lost count and yet when I dust it off and give it a run, I am still filled with Joy. I can not believe that I get to share this practice with you as a community and I am grateful that you all injoy it as well.
Tomorrow we celebrate our Nia community with a Jam, many instructors and students coming together to create a room full of sweaty joy!
In gratitude..........
